CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) Instructor

CBT Was introduced by the Government in 1990 in an attempt to improve road safety and to reduce the risk of accidents for young and inexperienced riders.
Everybody who wishes to ride a motorcycle must complete a CBT course although holders of a full UK car licence who passed their driving test before February 2001 are exempt if they wish to ride a moped - they also do not have to display
L plates.
Frisby Motorcycle Training are a DSA approved training body. We have a responsibility to ensure that all training is carried out to a very high standard since we have the authority to issue the official DL196 Certificate that will allow a new rider to use the public roads. The DSA also closely monitor all CBT training, therefore all of our Instructors are trained to an equally high standard.
To become an Instructor you must have held a full 'Category A' motorcycle licence for 3 years and must be of good character. All offences, motoring and non-motoring, are taken into account by the DSA when applying for a licence.

TRAINING.
Step 1
You will be given a 2 hour assessment which will help to determine your suitability to become an Instructor. This will include a short Theory Test and a road ride.
The fee for this assessment is currently £35.00

Step 2.
Five x 4-hour sessions (in-class and practical) on each of the 5 CBT elements
At the end of each session you will be given a Theory Test to complete in your own time.
You will be required to observe a minimum of three full CBT's to see how the course is conducted and to familiarise yourself with the teaching methods. The first of these will take place before the first of the five 4-hour sessions whilst the remaining two can take place at any time during your training.

Step 3.
When you have completed your training to a satisfactory level, we will apply to the DSA for a 'Down Trained' Instructor Licence. You will then be required to run a CBT under supervision. Assuming that this is carried out to a satisfactory standard and no further training is required, you may run further CBT's (paid) whilst you are waiting for your Cardington assessment date. All of our training is carried out to the standard required to become a 'Cardington Assessed CBT Instructor'.

FMCT run 500cc training either on an hourly basis (minimum of 2 hours), 1/2 day (3 hours), whole day (6 hours) or as an intensive course (generally 3 days).
  • There will be a practical trest booked for the last hour of the intensive course.
All of our training sessions are very flexible and can arranged to suit you.
